Meet Elwyn, our newest web developer. After a successful internship, we asked if he wanted to stay with us. His answer was a resounding "yes"! But who is Elwyn? What does he do? And what drives him? You can read it here!
Work Work Work
Starting work directly after school right at your internship site is a great career start. "When I was offered the chance to become a permanent employee, I didn't have to hesitate for long. From day 1 of my internship, I liked working for Tailr. It just sat right away. The atmosphere and all the information I received were a hit."
As a web developer, you work on a project basis. Elwyn immediately got to work on big projects for Pizza Hut and Faradoo. "I really love learning immensely. Any task I can learn something from, I start with pride. The downside, though, is that I find repetitive tasks a lot less enjoyable."
Atmosphere, atmosphere and growth opportunities
When we ask what makes Elwyn happy, it is immediately clear why he stayed with Tailr. "A good atmosphere and cooperation is really very important to me. That also makes me genuinely happy. When I started at Tailr, I was smoothly included in the team. Everyone helps each other, which definitely contributes to the good atmosphere."
From day 1, Elwyn received guidance from colleague Youri. "The support I received from him definitely made for a good start," Elwyn continues. "I got help to learn how to write code even better. That personal guidance also made sure I didn't feel like just another number."
When we sound out what Elwyn still wants to grow in, we notice that he really is a developer pur sang: "I want to expand my knowledge about writing code and become even better at it. I also want to grow in communication. When the time is right, I can then in turn help others on the team. Plus learning to ask a lot of questions also has a very positive impact on my development."
Everyone has moments of stress, but it is notable that Elwyn handles them very constructively. "I get stressed when something fails me. Usually I then leave the issue for a while and focus on something else. Often by focusing on something else for a while, you can see the forest for the trees again afterwards."
Varia
Before we let him get back to work, we couldn't resist asking Elwyn some random questions. When probing behind what superpower he would like, he quickly said, "being able to stop time." We suspect the tight deadlines that characterize software projects have something to do with that....
When he could choose an animal as a colleague, his preference goes to an owl. On the one hand because of their wisdom, on the other because they seem to him a nice quiet animal to work with. And if he could trade places with a celebrity for one day, he would be Mark Zuckerberg for 24 hours. "That does seem like an amazing experience to run such a huge company like Meta for one day," he said.
