Meet Rinzin, our new full-stack developer. After a successful internship, we welcomed this inquisitive, enthusiastic lady with open arms. But who is Rinzin anyway? What does she do? And what drives her? You'll find out here.
Work work work
Rinzin's eagerness to learn is immediately evident as she launches into her story, "I first started with self-study in the basics of web technologies. I liked that a lot, so after that I decided to take a course in full stack development." That further education was the impetus that allowed her to pursue an internship at Tailr.
Full stack development means both front-end and backend development of websites and software applications. She immediately got the opportunity to collaborate on a large custom project. "During my internship I co-developed the project Zangersheide, a very big player in the equestrian world," she continues. "I'm still working on that project, but now mainly on extensions to their digital story."
Atmosphere, conviviality, and opportunities for growth
Rinzin's enthusiasm comes out nicely when we ask what she thinks of the atmosphere on the shop floor. "Personally, I really love the atmosphere at work. Tailr is a sweet and friendly work environment. For the first six months you get support from a designated coach. We are often polled about our progress at work, but mainly to check if we still feel good and what our needs are. That human approach makes it a very nice working environment."
Stef became Rinzin's coach. As a mentor, he was (and is) a very valuable source of knowledge and support. "If I am struggling with a challenge, I can always turn to him. In addition, he sometimes helps me during sprints to make sure that I interpret all tickets correctly and to help me debug errors." When we ask what qualities make him the best coach, she quickly has an answer ready: "He enjoys sharing his knowledge and despite his busy schedule, as tech lead of our project, he always makes time to program together. He answers my questions very comprehensively and even answers questions I didn't know I had. Moreover, he knows how to reassure me well during stressful moments. As a junior, his guidance is really indispensable for my growth process."
So, atmosphere and sociability are already in place, but what does Rinzin still want to grow in? "I would really like to further develop my Symphony knowledge. We use Sulu CMS a lot, which is built on the Symfony framework. So, in that I would like to increase my skills." Rinzin enjoys achieving goals: seeing positive results gives her great satisfaction. Just like her fitness routine and quality time with friends and family, that too makes her very happy.
Varia
To conclude, we dish out a few more lighthearted questions to Rinzin. For example, we learn that her strangest vacation job was a telephone operator at an elevator company. "It's really unbelievable how many people get stuck in the elevator every day," she says. While many elevators hang still, she herself would really like to be able to stop time: "time manipulation as a superpower seems like something I would like. That way you can easily meet deadlines without sacrificing quality. Plus, then I would have more time left over to study and explore innovative ideas!"
To end on a beastly note, she lets us know that if she could choose an animal as a colleague, cuddly animals would be number one: "then I would go for a puppy or teddy bear." In talking about critters, we also immediately figure out her talent for imitating a goat. "With that I put people on the wrong track: when I imitate a goat, you sometimes see people looking to see where it is situated. Always a good laugh!"
